Background Information

Though coffee production in Kenya does not have a long history, it has become intertwined in Kenyan society. Coffee production has become a huge part of the nation’s economy. Approximately 6 million Kenyans are employed either directly or indirectly by the coffee industry. The coffee industry in Kenya requires a cooperative system of production, milling, marketing, and auctioning due to the fact that 70% of Kenyan coffees are produced by small scale farmers. There are three major growing regions located in the central highlands of Kenya. The acidic soil, sunlight, and rainfall in the highlands provide the perfect conditions for growing coffee trees. Coffee grown in Kenya is known for its pleasant aroma and intense flavor. Kenyan coffee has become one of the most sought-after coffees around the world.

Our Offering

Our Kenya coffee comes from small family-owned farms that belong to a community cooperative. Cooperative members cultivate approximately 250 coffee trees on 1/2 acre plots. Farmers deliver their harvest to the cooperative owned wet mill to be processed. At the mill, the coffee cherries are dehulled, washed, and dried in the sun on raised beds. Milled coffee is then graded based on the screen size of the beans, then taken to auction once a week.

Note:

We pride ourselves on delivering the freshest coffee possible, we accomplish that by shipping your order within 24 hours of it being roasted.
